Baby Wrap and Nursing Cover

I'm really not sure yet what extra "baby gear" I will use but it seems like a lot of moms use some kind of baby wrap/carrier and also nursing covers. They can be kind of pricey starting around $40 so I thought I would wait to get something until I know I would use it. But...with my mom coming to visit next weekend along with her sewing machine and serger, I thought maybe we could make them for way less! My mom definitely could because she is an amazing seamstress but I think I could even tackle these two projects with her help. In case you are interested in making them for yourself or for a gift or just to pass along the info to someone who might be interested....

Here are great instructions from Maya Wrap, a company that actually sells these and is willing to share their pattern!

And here is a fabulous tutorial on how to make this nursing cover from Prudent Baby. In fact check out the Prudent Baby website anyway because there are a gagillion tutorials on DIY projects that are awesome!

Yes I use a baby carrier and LOVE it! I used a "Metro-Mamma Wrap" with Caleb, then borrowed it out and they lost it, so this time instead of paying 80 bucks on another, I bought something similar, yet cheaper called a "Picara Baby Wrap"? Any ways, it's pretty much the exact same thing and the only real trick to these is the way you wrap it which my babies have always LOVED! You just find a material that is breathable and stretchy and then practically it's just an extra long piece of fabric! Best thing ever! If you ever wanted to come over and figure out the pattern (that's definitely not my expertise), you are definitely welcome! This pattern is great for when they are newborns and just want to sleep on you. And plus you have both hands available!
Any ways good luck with yours! Bet it'll be super cute!

So crafty of you! That Prudent baby website is adorable! I'm thinking about flower headbands and hair bows right now :)

P.S. I have a hugamonkey sling that I adore because it is sold by size and not adjustable, so it is unbelievably simple to use. You can't loose by making a Maya wrap, but I highly recommend the hugamonkey. I only stopped using it barely.

thanks for the feedback angela and julia! i'm checking both the picara baby wrap and hugamonkey sling out. they both seem more secure than the maya wrap.
